What do women really look like? We will explore how differences in lighting, posing and editing style can affect our ideas of how men and women “should” look, and how photographers are taught to photograph men and women differently. Designers who buy stock and hire photographers can use this information to be more aware of gender norms inadvertently reinforced in those images.
Susan Bennet is a commercial portrait and headshot photographer based in St. Louis, Missouri. Many of her personal projects deal with the perception and depiction of women in media.
