In the empty lot at the intersection of Cherokee and Texas streets sits an empty shipping container, its steel sides covered by alternating layers of public art and graffiti. It’s time to add a new layer and bring a small square of beauty back to the neighborhood – we’re glad you’re here to help.

During St. Louis Design Week, 10/8-10/15, AAF will be collecting submissions for a new mural to cover the four vertical sides of the shipping container. All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges during the Cherokee Street Day event on Friday 10/14 and the winner announced.

THE DEETS:

Size: The container measures 20′ x 8′ x 8’

Content: People are drawn to Cherokee Street because it’s overflowing with creativity. Its storefronts are packed with art, design, food, music, and makers of all types. This mural should
reflect the neighborhood’s diverse creative spirit and should make the people who live and work here proud of their contribution to St. Louis.

Restrictions: The design should not contain any words or symbols and should not contain any graphic sexuality, violence, drug use, or other potentially triggering imagery.

Execution: Designers will be responsible for applying their design to the container however they choose. Artists will be reimbursed to cover the cost of materials and time.

Submission: Prepare an 11×17 pdf showing your design with one page showing all four sides together and as many detail pages as you like.

Please email submissions to [email protected] with your name and contact info. Designers do not need to be present at the judging on 10/14 to participate or win (but it would so be fun to see you!)

We look forward to seeing what you create!
